Dental Bonding San Diego, CA

Repair Gaps and Defects in your Teeth

Nothing can be more damaging to the appearance of your smile than unsightly gaps and chipped spaces in your dentition. Fortunately, we can correct this by using a tooth-colored substance to re-mould your tooth or fix those gaps – which is commonly known as bonding. It is a multi-layered and rather sophisticated process where composite plastic is typically applied on the tooth then exposed to light of a particular spectrum to harden thereby assuming the desired shape needed to correct the chipped tooth.

Some FAQs about Dental Bonding

Is it painful or uncomfortable?

Since very minimal drilling is required and very little ( if any ) tooth structure is removed, the procedure is generally non-invasive. In fact, our San Diego office will oversee dental bonding without general anaesthesia – that’s how painless it is. Overall, though, our aim is to correct the look of your teeth without necessarily disturbing the original dentition.

Can a bonded tooth stain or become discolored?

The resins that we use for our bonding procedures are structurally and aesthetically similar to your normal tooth structure. So, it could stain just like natural teeth if continuously exposed to tobacco and coffee or if you neglect your dental hygiene.

Do bonded teeth require extra attention or care?

Indeed, you should avoid biting or chewing hard things such as candy, popsicles or ice cubes. Also, habitual chewing on pencils, pens and other non-food items could potentially damage the integrity of bonded teeth. Remember that the longevity of your newly bonded teeth will depend on a lot of factors including excellent dental hygiene, diet, proper domestic care, diet and general chewing habits.

How long is a dental bonding session?

Most bonding appointments should be done in a single sitting or two at the most. The length of the session itself, as you would expect, is dependent on the extent of correction that has to be made to your existing dentition to give you that gorgeous smile that you deserve. We are responsible for restoring thousands of smiles in people who, otherwise, had to endure years of a less-than-perfect twinkle.
